DOE reviewing civil suit against accused teacher

Posted: Updated:

The Guam Department of Education is looking into a civil lawsuit filed against one of their own, science teacher Vernon Kamiaz. In a statement to KUAM, deputy superintendent Erika Cruz says DOE legal counsel is reviewing their policies and personnel rules and regulations.

Kamiaz, who is listed as a teacher at Simon Sanchez High School, is still employed with the agency. Last week he was named in a child sex abuse lawsuit in the Superior Court of Guam.

The plaintiff, only identified as "E.M.", alleges Kamiaz was his confirmation teacher at the Agana Heights Church in the late 1980s.

During a car ride, E.M. alleges Kamiaz grabbed his private parts and made suggestive comments on how the teen boy could get his girlfriend to have sex with him.
