Firefighters ensure schools are ready for kids

With the new school year just a few days away, members from the Guam Fire Department stepped up to make sure that a pair of southern schools were prepped and ready to go. A handful of firefighters and volunteers from Platoon A took the time out to clean and cut grass at Harry S. Truman Elementary School in Santa Rita.

Also, the crews from Station #6 donated over $300 worth of basketballs, soccer balls, footballs and even tether balls to Inarajan Elementary and Middle School.

And on Friday, crew members from the Tamuning Fire Station painted a bus stop in the Jonestown area.

    Prison upgrades in the works

    Progress at the prison, as they continue to deal with overcrowding. DepCor Director Kate Baltazar says upgrades are in the works. They just received their electronic locking mechanisms and doors, which are in the process of being installed. She adds they haven't used one of the four dome units for some time, but new roofing is going up so that all the units there can be used for the prison population.
