Bill gives married people more options for name changes

Posted: Updated:

A bill allowing marriage applicants more options to change their names has been introduced. Senator Mary Torres introduced Bill 158-34.

The bill allows for applicants to change the middle name and surname by which they wish to be known upon marriage.

Two years ago, the Guam Marriage Equality Act was passed and removed the language in Guam statute that defined marriage as a union between persons of the opposite sex.

Bill 185 ensures that it corresponds with current statutes pertaining to equality in civil marriages.
