Four sworn-in as Guam Charter School Council members

Posted: Updated:

The Guam Charter School Council is finally back on track after four members were sworn in Thursday morning. The Council - charged with overseeing iLearn Academy and Guahan Academy Charter Schools - has been unable to meet since January due to a lack of a quorum.

New member Amanda Blas and governor's assistant for education Vince Leon Guerrero say one of the first things to address will be an application for a new charter school received in March. "I know that it's for career technical academy school and they're looking at grades 9 through 12, so what exactly careers their talking about, I'm not sure yet, I have not seen the actual application but I have spoken to the group that is interested and of course they're very anxious to get a hearing before the charter council," he said.

"We'll also look into some of the tasks that were laid out when the law created the charter school council - that includes oversight and as we mentioned in the swearing in, we're hoping to get an executive director as well, this is a request that has been consistently made by the council previously.

Sworn in today were Amanda Blas, Dr. Ancito Walter, Yuka Oguma and Frankie Toves.
