Next month the Democratic Party of Guam will elect its set of delegates that will represent the party during this summer's national convention. During Tuesday's Central Executive Committee meeting, former party chairman and majority leader Rory Respicio was selected as Guam's national committeeman.
"The Democratic Party of Guam is alive and well," he announced. "And come convention time when they ask Guam to deliver it's votes, both Senator Sanders and Secretary Clinton are going to fight really hard for every vote on Guam, and Guam is going to be relevant."
Respicio replaces Dr. David Shimizu, who was first elected back in 1986 but recently resigned due to personal reasons. Six other delegates and one alternate with be elected on May 7.
Guam is authorized 12 delegates who will cast votes for either former secretary of state Hillary Clinton or Senator Bernie Sanders. The national convention is set for July 25-29 in Philadelphia.
