Marianas possible host for next US Coral Reef Task Force

Posted: Updated:

Could the Mariana Islands be the next host of the 36th United States Coral Reef Task Force? That question will be under discussion at meeting held in Washington, DC later this week. Bureau of Statistics & Plans director Wil Castro told KUAM News, "This is a tremendous not just national, but international opportunity for exposure to highlight our work in the region with respect to the sustainability and protection of our coral reef systems, and as you know that conversation is inextricably tied to the effects of climate change."

Castro said the Mariana Islands is a likely choice for the 36th Task Force, which will attract cabinet members, subcabinet members, and governors from the US and other island nations. The task force is anticipated to take place this October.
