Guam - Chief Brodie Elementary School became the first school on Guam to host the Buddy Bench program, a program founded two years ago by a 2nd grader in Pennsylvania. The goal of the program is to promote inclusion for students who feel left out or lonely. Whenever someone is sitting on the bench, others will come to play with them.

"When we went around to all the classes, and the GATErs who presented the program asked them, how many of you have ever felt lonely or sad? Everybody raised their hand, and we felt that too, so we want to help our school and help our students feel like they belong," explained Becky Klemm, a teacher with the school's Gifted And Talented Education program.

The bench was created with the help of the 5th grade gate class and volunteers from the NMCB-11 Detatchment Guam. While this is the first of its kind in Guam, St John's School and other are already looking to implement the program.
