FD senior is overall winner of chess championships

Guam - The Guam Chess Federation recently organized the 2014 Guam Open Youth Chess Championships at the Micronesia Mall. According to organizer and tournament director, Noly Caluag, 46 players competed for 4 academic division titles, plus overall in this one-day under age 21 blitz tournament. Jed Caluag, a senior at Father Duenas Memorial School swept all of his 7 games to top the High School Division and claim the overall champion title. Kenneth Manalo from Guam Community College won 1st place in the college level and placed 2nd overall behind Caluag.  Another senior at FDMS, Brian Jin took 3rd place over-all, plus a silver medal in the high school division. The gold medalist in the middle school division went to Jaren Molod of Dominican Catholic School, while St. Anthony Catholic School's Christian Arriola took home the trophy for topping the elementary division.
