Guam - Monday marked the deadline for farmers registered within the Department of Agriculture to submit their claims for any damage or loss of crops due to Tropical Storm Halong back in July. Director Tita Taitague says the department is processing the 67 claims filed and reviewing the receipts and all the proper documentation. Taitague adds she will be submitting the claims to Governor Eddie Calvo in order to determine how much will be paid out. She hopes to also meet with FEMA officials who are on island this week. As we reported, President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration for Guam recently. FEMA named Kenneth Suiso as the federal coordinating officer for the federal recovery operations for Guam. According to Guam Homeland security public affairs officer Jenna Gaminde, at least 5 FEMA officials are arrived on Guam today and will be meeting with the office Wednesday morning. She adds the team will be on Guam until December 1.
