Tuncap, Oliver set for singles finale, Lai meets top seed for women's gold

Brian Tuncap Jr. overcame a slow start outlasting Anthony John on court 2 to set up a showdown against Charles Oliver Jr. for the golden battle of the Jrs.  Tuncap won in three sets 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 while Oliver battled Josh Cepeda in court 1.  The Tuncap-Oliver showdown lasted a grueling three hours as Oliver prevailed in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.  Cepeda will play John in the consolation match for the bronze medal.

Katrina Lai affectionately known as Katie blasted through 3rd seed Margarete Finnen 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the women's gold medal round against top seed Ayana Rengill of Palau.  The ITF Junior National player derailed Guam's 1-2 chance by defeating Camdyn Nadler 6-2, 6-1.  With the loss, Nadler challenges Finnen in the bronze medal match.

Oliver and Lai defeated Cepeda and Nadler 6-2, 6-3 in the mixed doubles event to advance to the gold medal match.  They will meet Palau's Keith Ignacio and Ayana Rengill of Palau who slipped past Guam's Duo tandem of Tuncap and Espinosa 2-6, 7-6 (10-7).

In other action, Guam women completed pool play undefeated in basketball as they dribbled past host Pohnpei 76-56.  Guam men’s volleyball didn’t have to break a sweat in keeping their record at a perfect 7-0 as Kosrae forfeited their match.
