Guam - Our men's national volleyball team will be heading to the 8th Micronesian Games with the goal in mind to defend their title. Team Guam has held the top spot in men's volleyball for the past 3 games and know that this time around won' be easy. The team has stepped up their training regiment incorporating some Cross Fit workouts at Synergy with Cross Fit Jump Start.

Kevin Perez, Outside Hitter, told KUAM News, "Chuuk last year didn't show up, they weren't contenders last year and didn't even play. We are looking forward to playing them this time around because the last time Guam has played them was 2002 and it was neck and neck through the semis and the finals so we hope to see Chuuk out there. Pohnpei is also a strong team, Palau every now and then will put out a strong team but Guam is always the Top Dog and everybody is always gunning for us. Our fitness level has been higher than it's been the last couple of national teams so I know it's working. Shout out to the guys at Cross Fit Jump Start. Generally throughout the whole year a lot of us stay active with the sport in tournaments and all that so we are in kind of good shape for most of the year but we just probably been eating a little bit cleaner just to prep ourselves for the endurance of the games."

11 players make up the team heading to Pohnpei with experience on their side. Despite not being able to get too much quality practice sessions in due to schedules the team is excited and ready to represent Guam.

P.J Quintanilla, Outside Hitter, said, "This year's squad we have a good mix of young guys and veteran players. We work out really hard and we train really hard so we are ready to go. For these games we picked up the tempo of our game so we incorporated faster movements and faster sets and faster offense. Big blocking and blocking defense and blocking schemes and we have just been working hard to play above the net this year."
