Guam - Guam residents can expect less severe weather than previously predicted as a result of Tropical Storm 09W.  This information was just released by meteorologists at the National Weather Service to the Joint Information Center.

As the JIC reported previously, there was a chance the storm would take a more northward track, which reduces its impact on Guam.

This updated forecast is based on new satellite information on wind shearing patterns, new analysis on the storm’s center and path, and re-evaluation of the intensification of the tropical storm.  It appears the storm has weakened overnight.

Residents are still advised that a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Guam.  This means that Tropical Storm force winds are still possible in the early morning, but not as strong as previously forecast.Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 1.  COR1 means that residents are asked to stay indoors and off of roadways, except in cases of emergencies. All families at shelters are advised to remain at shelters until the all-clear is given.

Chip Guard from NWS reports that residents can expect winds of up to 40 mph beginning 6 a.m. and last until 10 a.m.

Destructive winds of 58 mph or more are now less likely than previously predicted.
