DPW issues weekly report

Guam -The Department of Public Works has released its weekly report on what to expect on the island's roadways for the upcoming week. This advisory covers June 2nd - 8th.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through all construction zones and observe all posted speed limit and construction signs. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
Route 1/ 8 (Hagåtña Bridges)
 
Motorists traveling through this area are advised to be aware of new lane configurations, lane shifts and detours: 


  • Marine Corps Drive between Route 4 and Route 8 will be intermittently reduced to two lanes in each direction during daytime hours.
  • Marine Corps Drive between Chamorro Village and the Mitsubishi dealership, Route 8 between Chalan Santo Papa and Marine Corps Drive, and Route 4 between Chalan Santo Papa and Marine Corps Drive will be intermittent ly reduced to one lane in each direction between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for striping.

Route 17, Phase 2A 
Motorists traveling through this area are advised to be aware of new lane configurations, lane shifts, detours and expect two-way traffic to be reduced to a flagger-controlled one lane, one-way traffic during daytime road construction operations. 




Route 4 Ylig Bridge (Yona) 
Construction work at the Ylig Bridge continues this week with installation of traffic signs and miscellaneous roadside works. The activities may change as the weather or other conditions may permit.

Lane closures and traffic detours may be required for the safety of motorists traveling in the area.



Route 1 Asan & Aguada Bridges Rehabilitation
 
One lane in each direction at the Aguada Bridge site is closed. The contractor will be setting up their traffic control systems at the Asan Bridge starting Monday, June 2, and will begin bridge work on the southbound lanes this week. The Asan Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should expect intermittent traffic delays during the daylight hours while the contractor is working.



Route 4 Togcha River to Ipan Beach Park
 
Two-way traffic may be reduced to flagger-controlled one lane, one-way traffic intermittently during daytime road construction operations. Motorists should expect intermittent traffic delays as the contractor is working.



Route 4, Agfayan Bridge Replacement (Inarajan) 
The contractor is working at the Agfayan Bridge located south of the Inarajan pier (facing Bear Rock). Motorists should expect intermittent traffic delays during the day. Traffic control is installed and there is one lane, one-way traffic at this time.

    GFD back up to 8 operable ambulances

    They respond to thousands of calls a year. With that being said, mechanical failures will happen from time to time, but the Guam Fire Department is back up to 8 ambulances serving the island daily. According to Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas, currently there are 2 that are serving as back up and 3 that are still undergoing repairs.
