Guam - The Governor's Office officially proclaimed today as Guam No Tobacco Day. The proclamation comes a day before World No Tobacco Day on May 31 that highlights the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Public Health's Tobacco Prevention and Control Program health educator Christoper Surla said, "While there have been significant efforts to reduce the tobacco burden, tobacco use kills at least one person a day on Guam. One out of every four adults on Guam are tobacco users."

For World Tobacco Day, the World Health Organization is calling on all countries to raise taxes on tobacco.
