Guam - Aside from discussing their budget for next fiscal year, Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez presented a proposed $5.4 million supplemental budget for this fiscal year during a special meeting of the Guam Education Board last night.

Fernandez said, "There are some costs that we are going to incur between midsummer and the beginning of the fiscal year the requested supplemental budget is to address those costs."

Because the fiscal year starts on October 1st, DOE needs the supplemental funding to address additional costs that will be incurred before then such as extra funding needed as result of the expansion of Okkodo High School, the opening of the new Tiyan High School, money for the move of Untalan Middle School as well as costs needed for summer school to name a few.

The board by majority vote passed a resolution to support the supplemental budget request.
