Guam - It was on May 15 when Governor Eddie Calvo appointed John Rios as the new acting administrator of the Guam Economic Development Authority following the resignation of former administrator Henry Taitano late last month.

He tells KUAM that while he's still becoming familiarized with the programs Taitano and the board had implemented, He hopes to use his prior experience to move forward with GEDA's economic initiatives.

"I don't want to be overconfident, but yes with the experience that I have, I worked for BBMR for three years, prior to that I worked in the legislature as the executive director, I worked at the Retirement Fund which dealt with a lot of investments and then the eight to nine years of banking, commercial lending," he explained.

Rios says some of the programs he wants to work on directly include the State Small Business Credit Initiative and assisting the board with the overhaul of the Qualifying Certificate Program. Rios's appointment is for an 90-day acting capacity. BBMR deputy director Joey Calvo meanwhile takes over as the acting director of the bureau.
