Guam - The Guam Volleyball Federation will be hosting the 2014 U14 Boys' Junior Challenge on May 30th and 31st at the Harvest Christian Academy Family Life Center gym. Boys interested in joining should contact their respective middle school volleyball coach. For information on the tournament contact Kyle Eckert at 488-5179 or Sandra Low at 688-8860.
Kyle Eckert, Event Coordinator, told KUAM Sports, "This is the second year of it spear headed by the GVBF Board where we really wanted to get the youth of Guam more involved with some volleyball. So we are trying to get more of the public and private schools to participate in a tournament together because it seems like you are missing out in half of the schools when you only have an IIAAG tournament or GDOE tournament. So we are trying to get them to participate more together and make it one big whole volleyball family."
Free registration if teams commit by May 23rd with late registration fee from May 24th-30th being $75.00. 12 team players listed on the rosters will receive an event t-shirt.
Eckert, "Right now we are looking at it being a round robin tournament and then we will finish with a single elimination playoff format. If they register early it should be free for the teams that get in early right now we have 4 teams confirmed and we are looking to try and get 10. We really want to take a look at the talent we have here on Guam because we believe we really have a good talent pool to draw from. So this is actually going to be a way for coaches that are on Guam to come out and see what the talent is that rising up to the next level which is high school."
