Green Ridge moves on to next destination

Guam - It was over the weekend when Guam Customs and Quarantine along with Pestex continued to inspect the Green Ridge vessel following discovery of black widow spiders onboard last Thursday. Pestex was contracted to address the treatment. Over the weekend, pesticides were applied to the infected areas of the vessel. Port general manager Joanne Brown tells KUAM that the heavy equipment and vehicles on board the green ridge were offloaded after Pestex was finished with the treatment. To her understanding, all the spiders were killed and the vessel left this morning to its next destination of Japan. She adds brown wolf spiders and snails were also found and turned over to agriculture. The port along with Guam Customs and the Department of Agriculture will be meeting in the coming days to further discuss the matter and to address how to respond to future cases.
