Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo and First Lady Christine Calvo joined some of the island's foster parents in proclaiming May as Foster Care Month.  Governor Calvo says this month is used to commend the men and women whose hard work has helped young Guamanians find homes and love. He called all the island's foster parents as guardian angels.

He said, "There were 17 foster families when we first came in unfortunately the demand for foster parents as a result of many issues on our island has been growing and it was very difficult, that number has been very stagnant for many years and we talked to some of the folks at Public Health and how difficult it was because of this commitment to enlist more foster parents again I want to tell you my wife put up an objective for doubling it, the number of foster parents, I think we're not up to 33, we're close, we've almost doubled, we're there."

There are currently 160 children in foster care. Officials from Public Health and the Bureau of Social Services Administration joined in on the signing.
