Guam - The 1st Annual Like the Way for Individuals with Disabilities Sunset 5k was held at the Chamorro Village last weekend. About 400 plus runners came out to participate in the event which included a P.E.P course that catered to people with disabilities. The course was shorter so the participants could have a safe race of their own to take part in. Leone Rohr President of Parents Empowering Parents of Children with Disabilities Inc. said that the organization also implemented the White Ribbon campaign for friends and family members so that they can run in honor of a family member with a disability. Runners displayed the name of the disability or name of their family member on their ribbon while they ran. This was a fundraiser for the organization to help pay for training along with their yearly island wide conference which will be held on May 24th.The 5k was an event specifically to give the opportunity for families to be intergraded and included in a community event while allowing a community to inter grade with individuals with disabilities. Leone also added that the event also promotes disability awareness for the whole community.
