Guam - With the Liberation Day Carnival right around the corner, it looks like plans to open the Tiyan grounds for a night market are taking a backseat.

According to Mayors Council of Guam executive director Angel Sablan, once the carnival is over, the site will be available for a weekend night market. "This is going to be a four day night market. We don't want to compete with other night markets that have already been established around the island. But it'll be better and bigger than the others," he said.

Carnival grounds open May 19 and close August 1. Allowing for carnival breakdown Sablan estimates night market vendors can set up shop by mid-August.
