Guam - It was late last month when the Guam Election Commission awarded Election Systems & Software the contract to provide the island with new tabulation equipment. And following Thursday's GEC meeting, executive director Maria Pangelinan was tasked with writing a letter to the Guam Legislature requesting for appropriations in order to certify the contract.

"A letter is supposed to go to Senator Ben Pangelinan today to address his request for specific information for the amount we need so we will let him know that based on the invitation for bid, we are looking for a little under $200,000 for the upcoming elections for the new equipment and ballot stock," he said.

As we reported, the winning bid from ES&S came in at $134,000. Meanwhile, in addition to the letter, Pangelinan will also be sending the updated Guam Administrative Rules and Election Manual to senators following its approval by the commission last night. At least nine drafts of gar have made its way through the GEC following the election reform law passed in December 2012.
