Brown requests Calvo veto Port Master Plan Bill

Guam - It was last week when lawmakers passed Bill 283 straight down party lines that would update the port master plan. During today's Port Authority board of directors meeting, general manager Joanne Brown once again expressed her disappointment with the legislation that was amended without the port's input.

She said, "The major concern overall is the intrusion very much interpreted as the intrusion on executive authority on the ability of the board to determine these issues as they arise. I can't imagine having to go down to the Guam Legislature to seek the legislative bill to allow the port board itself to address these type of maintenance again short of total natural disaster or injury."

Brown expressed her concerns in a five-page letter written to Governor Eddie Calvo also requesting for him to veto the bill. She hopes to still work on a modified version of Bill 283 in order to implement an updated master plan agreeable to the port. No action has been taken on the bill just yet.
