Guam - There will be a 5K held this weekend at UOG to help benefit the Guam Homeless Coalition. Anyone interested in helping with the cause can register for the run at Hornet Sports in Tamuning.

Rebecca Casimbon, UOG student, said, "The Run for Shelter 5K will be held at the U.O.G SPPA Building on Sunday April 27th. For our Operation and Project Management Class we were told to do a class project and as a class we wanted to do something big and beautiful. So we decided to do a community service project and for our 5K the proceeds will go towards to Guam Homeless Coalition. With the fact of homelessness happening on our island and it is increasing we felt that what they do we can help benefit with in regards to our proceeds."

There are 8 divisions and the first 100 finishers will get race t-shirts. Medals will be awarded to the top 2 finishers in each division and trophies for the top overall male and female finishers.

Mamaling Reyes, GHCS/Sanctuary Inc. said, "Well the proceeds from the 5K will particularly benefit the Guam Homeless Coalition through its programs and also coming up with different events. Planning different events like our Point in Time Count and also to benefit our other clients as well as other homeless individuals on Guam. There are actually through the Point in Time count that was conducted in January 2014 there approximately 1,300 plus homeless individual and families on Guam. That's just preliminary numbers, it's not finalized just yet but that is the number we have right now and those are not just the unsheltered homeless those are also counts for the sheltered homeless."
