Agana Heights teachers continue to create union

Guam - Teachers and staff at Agana Heights Elementary School are moving forward with efforts to establish a union of their own.

In a hand delivered petition addressed to Department of Administration director Benita Manglona on Monday, Attorney Daniel Somerfleck refers to the group as the Guam Union of Professional Public Employees.

In the petition, he includes authorization cards from 93% of the school's employees in support of GUPPE  as their exclusive bargaining representative.

Somerfleck continues to state that GUPPE follows years of disappointment from the Guam Federation of Teachers.

If deemed an appropriate group to form a union, GUPPE requests to be certified by both DOA and the governor as the exclusive bargaining unit for Agana Heights employees and that no election be necessary.
