Guam - On network television Governor Eddie Calvo got some recognition. The governor appeared on The Independents a program on the Fox Business News Channel.
Host Lisa Kennedy Montgomery opened by talking about how Guam created an economic miracle by starting in 2011 with a $336 million deficit and by the end of 2012 turned it into a $30 million surplus. During the interview they asked Governor Eddie Calvo how he did it and what can U.S. politicians learn from him. Calvo said in order to stop the bleeding he had to cut spending and make difficult and unpopular decisions such as freezing raises and hiring. Jokingly Calvo was asked are you ready to come to the mainland and repair what's wrong with America and whether he was going to announce his presidency for the U.S. The governor responded first Guamanians have to be able to vote for president. He added that's an issue that would take another show.
