Guam - A man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a female minor and faced a maximum of 17 years behind bars will get a new trial. Superior Court Judge James Canto denied Adam Messier's motion for acquittal but granted his request for a new trial.
In a decision and order, the judge found that the credibility of the victim and her sister were impeached at trial as numerous inconsistencies were noted. The court noting that a year before filing a complaint against messier, they admitted to lying about their father and brother sexually abusing them.
The court is expected to schedule the new trial date on March 4.
