Guam - 50 years ago Lyndon Johnson was president, the hit song "I Wanna Hold Your Hand' was playing on the radio, the Vietnam War was in turmoil, Martin Luther King Jr won the Nobel Peace Prize. So many significant moments in history too place including the creation of the Guam Memorial Hospital.
"Today we wish to honor and thank the countless people who have brought us to this momentous occasion of GMH's 50th anniversary. We recognize most especially our past political leaders for providing guidance and financial resources to Guam's only public hospital mandated to accept all patients regardless of their ability to pay," said administrator Joseph Verga.
Today's proclamation signing was also to honor those who save lives and provide quality patient care in a safe environment. Senators also presented a legislative resolution to hospital officials today. During today's celebration GMH presented copies of their Joint Commission accreditation certificates that will be prominently displayed at the governor's office and the legislature. It will serve as reminder that Guam's only public hospital meets the standards of care in the nation.
