Guam - The DC Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the arguments in Tuaua vs. United States. The case involves Leneuoti Tuaua and five other plaintiffs who are challenging federal laws that deny U.S. citizenship to people born in American Samoa.
The hearing before the DC circuit follows a federal judge that concluded citizenship is not guaranteed to people born in unincorporated territories. The lead counsel in this case is former Guam resident and civil rights attorney Neil Weare. He is also president of We the People Project, an organization that works to achieve equal rights for residents of U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.
