Superintendent: DOE is paying employees gross pay

by Krystal Paco

Guam - If you're a DOE employee, superintendent Jon Fernandez clarifies you are receiving gross pay. This follows conversations at last week's Guam Education Board meeting in which members raised concerns on payroll.

"Its not that were only getting net payroll. the issue is whether we are getting the gross within the five days and so we've shared information with the Governors Office that on some payroll periods were fine in other payroll periods they may be a day or two too late and so were trying to make sure that that doesnt become a trend," he said.

Last week, GEB chair DR. JOSE CRUZ proposed that in the event DOE is assessed penalties for failing to payout gross payments such as retirement, that the Department of Administration be assessed penalties and not DOE.

Meanwhile Fernandez hopes to avoid the situation all together stating that they remain committed to addressing the issue.
