by Ken Quintanilla

Guam - The Guam Economic Development Authority board of directors approved Megaunited Corporation for a contract award for the construction of the Farmers Co-Op facility co-located with the Dededo Flea Market in Dededo.

The invitation for bid for the project was structured to include a base project scope of work and also a wide variety of optional work scope items such as fencing, gates, mechanical equipment, site infrastructure elements and improvements. Ten bids were submitted with based project bids ranging from $1.88 million to $4.4 million. Megaunited had the lowest base bid. The company has been in business for 14 years holding various Guam contractor licenses and has performed work for the Department of Education and Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority over the past decade.

At the recommendation of the PMO, GEDA staff recommended that the board approve Megaunited for a contract award of $3 million. The contract value is comprised of a base project amount of $1.8 million and not to exceed amount for bid options of $1.1 million. Staff also recommended that the board authorize the administrator to execute the relevant contract for construction of the Farmers Co-Op facility and relocation of the Dededo Flea Market upon final review by legal counsel.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by October 2014.
