Guam - Federal receiver Gershman, Brickner & Bratton has a lot of work in store over the next couple of years in order to successfully close the Ordot Dump. Project engineer Chris Lund provided an update on the closure to the society of the military engineers this afternoon.

Lund said there are two phases - the first focuses on the east half of the cover and leachate collection and conveyance system which is anticipated to be completed by November of this year. The second phase will focus on the west half of the cover, which will not be completed until November 2015. Lund says that both phases can only be completed during the dry season otherwise the covers and its seamings will not be efficient.

"We need two dry seasons to get the cover on of course when it's the wet season that doesn't mean we are not going to be working we have the ancillary systems to put in we've got ground water wells we've got gas wells to put in," he explained.

Once the phases are complete the covers and ancillary systems will be monitored and maintained for a 30-year period.
