DOC hopes to recruit 18-20 candidates as corrections officers

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - Department of Corrections director Jose San Agustin says he needs at least 55 correctional officers to properly man the prison's facility but for years DepCor has not been able to fulfill that need resulting in high overtime and tired officers, however, that is something San Agustin is working to improve - once he received the list from Department of Administration.

"The good thing is that we have six that we have started and anticipate the recruitment of 18 to 20 more officers," he said. "We would then go through that list of 60 to 70 names and do interview one on one and from there we will pull our 18 to 20 CO1s."

Agustin adds, that by April he anticipates the Department of the Interior funding of $950,000 to be identified and released to DOC, which will allow for the additional hiring of 31 correctional officers.
