Guam - The Department of Agriculture has released close to $350,000 in checks to island farmers seeking assistance through the agency's Crop Damage Compensation Program. Director Tita Taitague says the second batch of payments accounts for 78 farmers who experienced losses from heavy rains late last year. The department had recently paid out a total of $135,000 to farmers. Taitague has called farmers informing them of the latest payments that can picked up at the Treasurer of Guam at the Department of Administration in the ITC Building in Tamuning. Meanwhile she adds Friday is the deadline for any farmer who has yet to file a claim with the proper receipts.
