Senate passes FY14 NDAA

by Sabrina Salas Matanane

Guam - The Fiscal Year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act cleared the Senate today. The measure contains a half-billion dollars in military construction projects for Guam, including an $86 million for a Marine Corps aircraft hangar at north ramp on Andersen Air Force Base which directly supports the military realignment. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo applauded the Senate's passage of the measure adding the bill underscores the United States' commitment to the rebalance to the Asia-Pacific Region by putting real resources to programs that are strategically important to the U.S. posture in the Asia-Pacific Region. Governor Eddie Calvo meanwhile says this is a signal that the buildup is back on and more importantly this construction activity will be a boost to Guam's economy creating jobs for our workers and our people. The measure heads to the president for his signature.
