Charter school thanks officials for extending deadline

by Krystal Paco

Guam - It's an early Christmas gift for students and staff at Guahan Academy Charter School.

Although today was deadline for the school to finalize a lease agreement to operate on the CoreTech facility in Tiyan, they've been granted an extension following a meeting between Acting Governor Ray Tenorio, Attorney General Leonardo Rapadas, GEDA administrator Henry Taitano, and CoreTech CEO Ho Eun held yesterday.

The new deadline to finalize their lease is December 31, inline with GovGuam's deadline to pursue its option to purchase Tiyan to convert into a central high school.

In a statement they released today, the school's students, parents, faculty and staff give thanks to those responsible for allowing the school to remain open, adding, "Their actions have given us the greatest gift in this season of giving."

As we've been reporting, it was earlier this week the school announced they'd be evicted come Monday without a lease agreement in place.
