Guam - It marks the first time since they took over control of Liberation Day festivities that the Mayors Council of Guam received an unqualified opinion on an audit by the Guam Office of Public Accountability.
However, auditors did note several repeat deficiencies that were identified in audits conducted in 2010 and 2011.
The OPA's latest report examined Liberation Day Committee funds in 2012 during which overall disbursements and deposits increased. What remained the same were material weaknesses in the lack of formal accounting policies and non-compliance with procurement procedures.
Among some of the findings, 24 disbursements totaling $56,000 were not supported by procurement documents. To read the audit in its entirety log on to GuamOPA.org.
