Guam - The grade is in and Simon Sanchez High School receives an "A" rating from the Department of Public Health.
This follows yesterday's inspection of the Yigo school by the island's regulatory agencies.
DPHSS environmental public health officer administrator Ron Carandang says 10 demerits were given for the main building and 8 for the cafeteria with citations that included peeling paint, stained, mildew, and missing floor tiles, and some classrooms exceeding temperatures above 84-degrees Fahrenheit.
Nonetheless, the school received high marks, what DOE deputy superintendent Rob Malay says demonstrates the hard work that was put in these last two weeks at improving school conditions.
He adds that now conditions have been upgraded, stakeholders at the school must maintain those conditions.
Malay adds pending projects include repairing the tin awnings, the roofing parapet, and the A/C ducts.
