Airman pleads guilty to house allowance scam

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - Another member of the armed forces has signed a plea agreement admitting that he received federal money that he was not entitled to. John Castillo admitted to submitting a bogus real estate rental lease claim claiming he was paying more than $2,000 in monthly rent to his mother for living in Dededo.

He's accused of scamming over $50,000 from the federal government by fraudulently claiming the Overseas Housing Allowance. The airman agreed to cooperate with federal authorities and pleaded guilty to making a fraudulent claim against the United States. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 17.
