Guam - Important news for parents as another active TB case is reported at a Department of Education school.
Public Health director James Gillan confirms an Untalan Middle School employee was admitted to the Guam Memorial Hopsital, diagnosed with active TB, and placed in the Isolation Ward.
DOE deputy superintendent Rob Malay tells KUAM a contact investigation will be launched next week. All school personnel including students who may have had contact with the employee will need testing.
We should note, it was earlier this year a national shortage of the skin test solutions forced local lawmakers to relax TB screenings for school entrance. As Gillan previously testified before lawmakers, TB screenings are not true indicators of the disease as he tells KUAM the UMS employee originally tested negative in her PPD test.
