Guam - November is Diabetes Awareness Month. For years island residents have battled and coped with this illness. The prevalence of the disease on island has grown so much that even those who do not have the disease either know a friend or relative who is a diabetic. There are several types of diabetes which affect not only adults but children as well and it is the third leading cause of death on Guam. But while diabetes is common on island it is not a disease that our youth must accept or live with. Learning to identify risk factors symptoms and treatment is key to teach our youth how to avoid becoming a future diabetic. This month the Diabetes Association will be hosting its 14th Annual Diabetes Conference on November 10th at the Hilton.
