GFD investigates house fire

Guam - Arson investigators are on the scene at a single bedroom home on San Vicente Street that was fully engulfed in flames this morning.  Barrigada Mayor June Blas says no one was home at the time of the fire. 

When firefighters arrived they found the home ablaze.  Black smoke damage can be seen around the home.  Guam Fire Department Spokesperson Lt. Phil Camacho says the blaze caused severe damage to the kitchen and living room. A call was made to 911 just before 9:15 Sunday morning. 

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within a few minutes.The mayor has contacted the American Red Cross to assist the family who was renting the home but were not there at the time of the fire. 

GFD is investigating the cause of the blaze.

    An inmate is found dead at the Department of Correction prison overnight. Corrections officers reported inmate Luis Hocog was found unresponsive inside his Post 16 cell around 11 pm on Friday. The officer contacted the platoon commander of the situation and requested for medical assistance, a news release stated.
