Guam - Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo has announced Governor Eddie Calvo was appointed to serve on President Barack Obama's State, Local and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. The task force was established to advise the Obama Administration on how the federal government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide that are dealing with the impacts of climate change.

Bordallo says she's please with Calvo's appointment adding it will lead efforts to mitigate the harmful impacts global warming is having on Guam and throughout the country.

"Global climate change threatens to warm the oceans and cause further degradation of our coral reefs including coral bleaching and coral.disease outbreaks," Bordallo says. "The issue of climate change should not be a partisan matter and Governor Calvo's participation in this task force makes that point clear. The loss of coral will cripple our fisheries, food supply and marine tourism."
