Guam - The Democratic Party of Guam is gearing up for its party elections next weekend. According to Speaker Judi Won Pat's office, who is chairing the Nomination Committee, while nominations were due last Friday, they are extending the deadline to accept more candidates.

The committee adds no one has yet to submit a petition for party chair and vice chair who are required to run together as a male and female team. Several however have picked up applications including majority leader Senator Rory Respicio.

"At the end of the day; we're going to work very hard to have one candidate going forward because the work of our party in the upcoming 2014 election is going to be very crucial to recognize that every voice is going to be heard and that's the core principal of the Democratic Party and every individual will be represented," he said.

Respicio says because others have expressed a possible interest in running for the party leadership, he will wait to see before making a final determination. A final list of candidates should be announced by next week Tuesday with the party elections set for November 9. A list of polling places meanwhile should be finalized by tomorrow.
