MARINE CORPS ACTIVITY GUAM, Dededo - Noah Martin, a 16-year-old junior at Southern Christian Academy, presented more than 60 toys to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign at the Guam Chamber of Commerce office in Hagatna, Monday, October 28.
In-lieu of presents at her 16th for gifts for Toys for Tots. When asked why she wanted to make such a generous donation, Martin said her family has always donated to charities, so it was natural to want to do this. She went on to explain, "I felt like I have everything I need… and if I were in their shoes and it was Christmas, I would want something too."
The Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign in Guam is a Marine Forces Reserves mission that has been taken on by the active duty Marines assigned to Marine Corps Activity Guam. The Toys for Tots Campaign mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. All toys collected in Guam will be distributed by the Guam Salvation Army.
MCAG Public Affairs Officer and Toys for Tots local coordinator, Major Neal Fisher said, "The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens."
Members of the community interested in donating toys to Toys for Tots may drop off their donations at any of the Toys for Tots collection boxes located at businesses and retail locations around the Island through Friday, December 13. Also, the Guam Chamber of Commerce will accept donations throughout the campaign.
