Guam - In celebration of 38 years of service as an autonomous agency within the Government Of Guam, the Port Authority of Guam officially kicked off its Port Week festivities this morning in Piti. Port general manager Joanne Brown says just as the port resumes normal operations following last week's typhoon, Port Week is a time to recognize the 338 hardworking employees who are behind the agency's success.
"Our people here work very hard and in spite all the challenge, they're still here and whether it's a sunny day or rough weather or what ever the case may be, they're still here to respond to the need and it's certainly a wonderful time to appreciate their efforts," she said.
She adds this year will also witness the most modern expansion that the Port has ever experienced including the demolition of its 100,000 square foot warehouse two to make room for a new breakbulk area along with 4.6 acres of expansion. Several events are planned for this week with the grand finale on friday at the Port beach.
