Guam - The island remains in a Tropical Storm Watch and will continue to be Condition of Readiness 3 for the rest of Wednesday night. Tropical Depression 26W is about 90 miles south-southwest of Guam, which is further south than was earlier anticipated. It continues to strengthen and winds have increased to 35 miles per hour.
The Tropical Storm Watch means the island can expect damaging sustained winds of 40 miles per hour or more in the next 48 hours. Tropical Depression 26W is slowing down and is expected to turn west overnight and will likely intensify into a tropical storm late tonight or early morning.
The Joint Information Center says that the worst conditions are not necessarily over; this just means that officials have more time to reassess the situation in the morning and make any decisions at that time.
Island schools and Government of Guam agencies will be open on Thursday. Any changes to this will be decided on in the morning after reviewing the latest storm tracking.
Island residents can listen to i94-FM or Isla63-AM in the morning for an update if the weather changes.
