Guam - Dozens of women and men were pretty in pink this morning celebrating the proclamation of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Guam, breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women. It's also marked the second deadliest for women nationwide.
Wearing his pink ribbon pin, Department of Public Health and Social Services director James Gillan said, "Prevention is the key. Early and often. We put a minimal amount of money in a very useful tool like screening and we get a lot of positive results."
The month is packed with breast cancer awareness activities starting with a wave on Friday along the ITC intersection, a "Save the Susu" Zumbathon that same day, and the strides for the cure run/walk on Saturday.
