Guam - Last week's record setting rainfall may have forced a handful of school closures and early dismissals, but DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez tells KUAM classrooms leaked less thanks to the $13 million in ARRA funds invested in roofing repairs for schools islandwide.
"I guess the silver lining in this is that these hard rains have really demonstrated number one that most of our schools are fine in regards to the roof repairs that were made. There were a few schools that we did see some roof issues so Simon Sanchez was one of them, Upi, Oceanview, and Inarajan Middle School and those are four of our forty schools," he said.
Fernandez says contractors are addressing these schools as the contract includes a 10-year warranty.
All 40 DOE schools will be open on Tuesday and resume regular hours now that power and water have been fully restored.
