Guam - While participating in an outdoor science lesson, students at George Washington High uncovered ordnance near the school's baseball field initiating a lockdown of the Mangilao campus.
Guam Homeland Security acting PIO Dee Cruz says the call came in at 9:30 this morning with Homeland, Guam Fire, Guam Police, and EOD reporting to the scene shortly after.
Cruz says the item was a Japanese knee mortar, which appeared to have never been fired.
DOE deputy superintendent Rob Malay confirms students were transporting dirt near the baseball field to be used as part of a garden when the item was uncovered.
The scene was secured around 10:30 a.m.
